机动战舰抚子号是一部喜剧,科幻,动画片，被称为木星蜥蜴的神秘敌人第一次袭击地球是在2195年，面对拥有压倒性力量的敌人，地球军束手无策，火星连同殖民地一起落入敌人手中。这就是“第一次火星会战” 　　一年之后，为了夺回火星，民间组织尼鲁加路重工以最新的科技造出新型战舰NADESICO号，召集来的船员包括以年轻的女舰长御统由利加为首，她青梅竹马的朋友，身兼厨师和机师的天河名人，其他船员虽然各有所长，但人格和来历都有一点问题。 　　在战斗变得白热化之际，一个重大的真相被揭发了，敌人原来是100年前被放逐到木星的地球人子孙。他们想得到能够令其运用来往行星间的瞬间移动技术，玻色子跳跃的火星遗迹。 　　跟木连的和谈以失败告终，为了争夺火星的遗迹，NADESICO、木连和尼鲁加路的三方混战开始了，到此为止，是地球跟木连战斗的历史，后来，地球和木连结盟，宇宙总算恢复和平，以上是TV版的剧情。

The Earth is being attack by machines from Jupiter called Jovian Lizards, the Earth's last hope may be the Nadesico, a highly advanced spaceship created by a huge corporation. One of the crew-members, Atiko Tenkawa, a chef/pilot turns up to discover his childhood friend Yurika Misumara is the captain. Yurika has a crush on Akito, but other crew-members love him too, presenting Yurika with competition. Akito, however, isn't interested in any of the girls, due to the fact that he's busy cooking and trying to cope with a past trauma. Soon the crew discovers that the Lizards aren't what they appear and may have more enemies than they bargained for.
